Are you going to celebrate International Workers' Day?

May 1st is coming soon. We Chinese are going to celebrate the holiday and have three day off. I heard that some traditional European countries consider it as a national public holiday, but in only some of those countries is it celebrated specifically as "Labour Day" or "International Workers' Day". While countries like united states celebrate Labour Day on the first Monday of September.

What about you? Are you going to observe this holiday as well? Where do you live in? which peony?

I am going to Xi’an to spend my holiday. I will share pics with you once coming back. Have a nice holiday.

Japanese Tree Peony Shima-nishiki - Dao Jin

Some people may doubt that his or her Japanese Tree Peony Shima-nishiki - Dao Jin do not show like red-white petals. Some people said his Shima-nishiki flower is all red, not any white petals could be found. So he was concerning that somebody sold the wrong cultivar to him.

Actually, this is normal. Shimanishiki is the bud mutation of Japanese tree peony Taiyo. Due to a different growing environment and management, not all the Shimanishiki will have the same color, red and white. According to the records of statistic, some are all red, some are red and white, some are red and pink, also others are pink and white.

Some thought his tree peony is Taiyo when he saw all the petals are red. Pls put this idea away.

Shimanishiki is rose form or lotus form. 1 plant can produce several different tinctorial flowers. florescence is at the end of April.

Warm tips

To: tree peony new buyers in last fall and this spring

If you plant a new tree peony in last fall, 2014, or in this spring, I guess it’s time for you to pick off the top buds of your tree peony, thus enabling your flowers to grow better and better in the following years, and have enough nutrition to keep its root getting stronger and stronger.

There is an old saying about tree peony in China, “ never give life up, even though give flower up.”

Any concern still existing, I’d like to help you.

Peony Petals

I know it is very cruel to pick up peony’s petals into pieces.  I hate it.
I don’t wanna destroy any life, even a small flower.
Following petals were not picked by me, I just found them.

They are pretty, light pink, dark red, I want to eat it but the condition is that they are fine to eat.

Peony Book

It was written by martin page, an excellent peony breeder and expert. It was published by Timber Press, Inc. in 2005. There are 12 chapters, mainly talking about the history of peony, peony types, also some peony breeders and so on.  I have to say it is truly a wonderful book. I learnt a lot from it. in china, we are quite familiar with Chinese species and Japanese species, while not knowing ITOH peonies. after reading this book, I know some original itoh hybrids, like “bartzella”, “border charm”, “callie’s memory”……. Actually, I am more curious about these flowers’ name.  when I saw “first arrival”, a romantic scenery came into my mind. The breeder of this type must be very astonished the moment he saw a lavender-pink flower standing in front of him.

Some day in the future, I have to try some itoh peonies.
